Andre Richardson Gets on Ballot and Formally Launches Council Campaign
By Jon Whiten • Mar 24th, 2009 • Category: Blog, PoliticsWith last week’s filing deadline for petitions now passed, Andre Richardson formally kicked off his campaign to unseat Ward A Councilman Michael Sottolano this afternoon, saying he intends “to bring real leadership, new ideas and new hope” to the Greenville ward.
“I’ve spent the last two years meeting and talking with friends and neighbors throughout the community. I hear the same stories, the same struggles — the same fears,” the 31-year-old community organizer for the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) says. “The challenges we face are not new, but our solutions must be.”
Richardson says his campaign will focus on economic development, education and community policing.
“I will fight to bring our fair share of economic development and revitalization projects to Ward A,” Richardson says. “With them will come better jobs, safer streets and more opportunities for our children, our working families and our small businesses.”
Also certified to run in Ward A are former City Councilwoman Frances O. Thompson, who is running on L. Harvey Smith’s ticket, and Rolando Lavarro, who is on Lou Manzo’s slate.
