Fulop Fights Off Challengers in Ward E
By Jon Whiten • May 12th, 2009 • Category: Blog, PoliticsOur reporter at Steve Fulop’s Downtown headquarters says that the Ward E councilman has already left the office, confident in his margin of victory, and gone on a walk around the neighborhood with his family. The campaign will be gathering later at LITM on Newark Avenue to celebrate.
Fulop received 2,816 of the 4,465 votes cast in Ward E, giving him 63.1 percent of the vote. His closest challenger, Guy Catrillo, came in at 22.9 percent, while the other three challengers all received less than 10 percent of the vote. Jaime Vazquez received 7.35 percent; Joe Tarrazi, 5.1 percent; and Azam Riaz, 1.6 percent.
Campaign manager Shelley Skinner told JCI that the campaign was very confident about its get out the vote operation.
“This is a very active community,” she said of Ward E. “For us to get out the vote, it’s a good thing.”
