Mayor Hague, Saint or Sinner.
I have to lean toward sinner. He destroyed or attempted to destroy the industrial base of the City
with increased property assessments that had these giants of industry looking for greener pastures.
Standard Oil $1.5 million to $14 million,
PSE & G $3 million to $30 million
Railroads $67 million to $160 million.

My dad as a Jersey City Policeman on a very, very samll salary had to search out a loan company
to pay the required 3% , besides buy tickets to opening day at Rooevelet Stadium.
The City's debt under Hague was astronomical and we have never gotten out from under it.

Bob Leach's value to Jersey City is immense. He is the Jersey City historian and storyteller for the days gone by and a much loved seanachie or Irish storyteller for those of us whose roots lie in Ireland and Jersey City. For many whose families live in Jersey City or came from Jersey City, Bob Leach's stories reveal an underpinning of reality that existed for many of our families. This underpinning was also something that was not very accessible because many families do not like to speak of hard times or struggles and only of triumph's.
