Jersey City Museum Gets $25K Federal Grant to Preserve Jobs

The Jersey City Museum was awarded a $25,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) this week as part of a $29.8 million effort — funded with federal stimulus money — to preserve jobs “threatened by declines in philanthropic and other support during the current economic downturn.” The NEA says it received 2,400 applications and was only able to give awards to 631 organizations across the country.

The museum is the only Jersey City institution to receive a grant, but a number of other New Jersey organizations are on the list. Rutgers University received a total of $100,000, split between its main campus and its Camden branch. The American Boychoir School (Princeton), the Montclair Art Museum, Morris Museum (Morristown), the Newark Museum, Newark Public Radio, the Paper Mill Playhouse (Millburn), Peters Valley Craftsmen (Layton) and Young Audiences of New Jersey (Princeton) all received $50,000 grants; while the Center for Modern Dance Education (Hackensack), the International Sculpture Center (Hamilton) and the Passage Theatre Company (Trenton) were given $25,000 grants.
