Attention Artists: Three Studio Tour Open Calls

By • Aug 10th, 2009 • Category: Arts, Blog

This year’s Artists Studio Tour is slated for Oct. 3 and 4, and a few arts organizations are already busy accepting submissions or curatorial ideas for shows they are planning. Here are three open calls.

Art House Productions

Art House is putting together a multimedia group show — inventionREinvention — for the Studio Tour, and the group is accepting submissions until Aug. 19. The show will be at Art House HQ (1 McWilliams Place), and will run through Nov. 7 (there will be a closing reception on that date as well).

Here’s more info from the call:

This year’s theme is “invention” and “re-invention.” How do everyday objects become art? How do we use materials already in our possession to create something new and glorious?

Sculpture out of household items, music out of street noise, video art out of what we expect to see everyday…the sky is the limit. Explore that point where our mundane and dream worlds collide.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Email a maximum of 5 images (low res files please) OR media sample/description by August 19th to Emily Helck, Visual Art Curator for Art House Productions: art (at) arthouseproductions.org

- Work must be professionally presented and ready to hang.

- Any additional needs for sculpture, sound or video installation should be noted in the submission.

- We ask all artists who display work in this show to sign up for a time slot for gallery sitting over Studio Tour weekend.

- If selected, artists will be required to assist in hanging the show.

Victory Arts Projects

Victory Arts Projects has been putting exhibits on in the lobby of 545 Washington Blvd. in the Newport section of town this year, and they are asking artists to submit works to potentially show there as part of the Studio Tour. The show is not yet themed; Victory Arts will develop themes based on what is submitted. For guidelines and more info, email victoryhall1 (at) msn.com with the subject line “545 show” by Aug. 15.

Curators Wanted For 3-D Exhibition

Pro Arts, the city’s Cultural Affairs division and the Jersey City Museum are seeking curatorial proposals for the Studio Tour — specifically for an all 3-D exhibition. For more info or to express interest, email Rebecca Feranec at rebecca.proarts (at) gmail.com.
