Boil Water Advisory in Effect ‘Until Further Notice’

By • Sep 1st, 2009 • Category: Blog, News

United Water officials are advising all Jersey City residents to continue boiling their water as a result of a water main break on Route 7 at Charlotte Circle.

Residents are advised to boil their water at a rolling boil for one minute for the following uses: drinking, cooking, baking, making ice cubes, taking medication, brushing teeth, washing food, mixing baby formula, mixing juices or drinks, feeding pets or other consumption.

Water pressure has returned to normal levels for most of the city, except on the west side, United Water says. They urge residents in this area to conserve water while the repairs on in progress.

Greeeaaaat. I was worried when the water was brown last week but promptly forgot about it when the brown subsided. Any idea what happens if you drink the dirty water?

    James-

Not sure what would happen if you drank the dirty water — probably nothing in reality, but the company has to err on the side of caution. I’d say call or email United Water if you have questions: Sonja Clark, United Water, 201-767-9300 — sonja.clark@unitedwater.com
