This Weekend’s Best Bets

It’s supposed to be a gorgeous weekend, folks, so get out there and check out what’s going down in Jersey City.

With such impeccable fall weather, today is a great day to swing by the Creative Grove arts market. You could also check out the debut of Cecile Raley Designs’ fall jewelry collection at the Stockinette Knitting Cafe (complete with complimentary happy hour from 5:30-6:30!).

Tonight also marks the premiere of the Attic Ensemble’s new play, Neil Simon’s Come Blow Your Horn — you can catch a performance tonight, tomorrow or Sunday (or next weekend — check out all the dates here).

On Saturday, local storyteller Bob Leach’s Parade of the Shantytown Dead will get a special daytime screening at the Historic Jersey City & Harsimus Cemetery. The Landmarks Conservancy’s John Gomez will also be on hand for a Q&A following the film. Saturday night, a handful of locals will be playing live music around town, with Binky Bianca, Hartwell and Snowball 37 at the Iron Monkey and Darren Deicide and Nathan Carpenter at the Lamp Post.

On Sunday, Curious Matter will unveil its latest group exhibition, Nyktomorph, which looks to be really interesting. Up the hill in JSQ, there’s an Italian Festival at The Dante Alighieri Society, with lots of food — and classes on how to make Italian food — and scheduled performances by the Kennedy Dancers and none other than Mayor Jerramiah Healy.
