The Pride Connections Center of New Jersey is turning two, and to celebrate the milestone as well as National Coming Out Day and LGBT History Month, the center (at 32 Jones St. near Journal Square) is hosting a series of events this week.
“We are thrilled to be turning two, and we’re so excited about our week of events,” director Nancy Caamaño says. “Our staff is working diligently to put together a memorable week of events that will reflect our commitment to serving this community throughout the region and to empowering our movement across the nation.”
Things kick off tomorrow night (Tuesday, Oct. 13), with a Transgender Panel Discussion featuring an original trans version of The Vagina Monologues. Wednesday night’s program is a panel discussion on the impact of coming out from a historical standpoint and what it means today, while Thursday’s presentation by YouthConnect looks at the history of House Ball culture.
On Friday night, the center is hosting a five-bar Pub Crawl in the Downtown area; you can hit Barrow Street Bar, Star Bar, The Merchant, Hard Grove Cafe and LITM all for $35 (the price includes five free drinks).
On Saturday, the center hosts a Homecoming Dance and two days later, there will be an official rainbow-flag raising ceremony at the center’s building.
