There is a solid mix of art, live music and theater offerings this weekend in Jersey City. Be sure to check out our Cultural Calendar for full listings, but here are our top picks.

TODAY

The Actors Shakespeare Company at NJCU is putting on a free stage reading of Lope De Vega’s Madness in Valencia by play master Denise Hurd this evening at 7:30 pm, with additional readings Saturday at 7:30 pm and Sunday at 3 pm. At Made With Love, there’s an opening reception for Ashley Lucas’ new exhibit of winter photographs and illustrations from Austria and Germany, “Prost!,” featuring live music from Ace Case. Speaking of live music, a very solid lineup is at the Iron Monkey tonight, with local faves Any Day Parade and Fairmont joined by Jesse Ian Dunn, Theodore Grimm and Bombs.

SATURDAY

Con Vivo Music opens its new season at 8 pm with a free performance of duets, trios, and quartets for oboe, clarinet, violin, viola, and cello at Grace Church. If your musical tastes trend towards the more raucous, check out Choirs of Titan at the Lamp Post or Crazy and the Brains, Univox and Rachel Brown at the Iron Monkey.

SUNDAY

Two solid film offerings bookend your Sunday. At 3:30 pm, Little Ashes is screening at LITM as part of the Chillfest film series. Later in the evening, The Warehouse kicks off a four-night run of free documentary screenings with Night & Fog at 8:30 pm. Also in the Sunday mix is a benefit show at the Iron Monkey, featuring A True Story, Goodnight Bravado, Mispent Youth, Fairbanks, wearedeparted and Deacons.
