Learn How to Step Up and Serve Your City at Free Class
By Jon Whiten • Nov 16th, 2009 • Category: Blog, News, PoliticsHave you ever been so peeved with something going on in your neighborhood, on your block or in City Hall that you’ve wondered how to personally get involved, but shied away when the process seemed perhaps too daunting to undertake?
A free forum being held on Thursday at City Hall aims to help folks like you — and anyone else who wants to serve — learn the process of getting on to a city board, commission or authority. There are 39 boards in the city, from the Human Rights Commission to the Artists’ Certification Board, and many have multiple vacancies.
Thursday’s event is co-sponsored by Civic JC, the Downtown Coalition of Neighborhood Associations, the Heights Coalition, and the Citizens’ Campaign, a statewide good-government organization; city clerk Robert Byrne will also be on hand to speak about the process. The effort is part of the Citizens’ Campaign’s “Jersey Call to Service,” a statewide public service initiative to inspire citizens to participate in the leadership of their communities and reverse the tide of government waste and corruption.
The one-hour leadership forum will be held Thursday, Nov. 19 , at 7 pm, in the City Council chambers on the 2nd floor of City Hall. The forum is free and open to the public; if you are interested in attending please RSVP to Andrew Hubsch at andrew@civicjc.org.
