Horn Tootin’ Time: JCI Co-founder at Local News Conference
By Jon Whiten • Nov 19th, 2009 • Category: BlogAt a conference sponsored by the Citizens’ Campaign, Monmouth University and the NJ League of Women Voters yesterday, Jersey City Independent co-founder Shane Smith appeared on a “Meet the New Media Innovators” panel with representatives from other news websites in New Jersey. He and folks from AllVoices, New Jersey Newsroom, Cranford Patch and Baristanet talked about engaging communities, running a new-media start-up and holding those in power accountable in a shifting media landscape.
Check out Gannett’s report on the conference here. (And don’t believe that reporter — Shane has not changed his name to Shyane!)
You can also watch video from the conference and learn more about the Citizens’ Campaign’s efforts to train citizen journalists (which the Independent will be involved with going forward) on the group’s website.
