Six-Month Art/Activism Series on Immigration Kicks Off Tonight

Ian Hinonangan straddles two worlds in his daily life. He is an immigration and deportation defense attorney, and he’s also the owner of the Lenapeeps Art Gallery in Bergen Hill and the Downtown cafe The Warehouse. Tonight, Hinonangan is launching a project that incorporates both selves — “reFORM Mondays, USA,” a six-month series of talks, art exhibits and discussions intended to advance immigration reform.
Tonight’s kickoff, which is at 6 pm at the Warehouse (140 Bay St.), will focus on the framework for immigration reform and a workable mechanism for legalizing the official status of the more than 10 million undocumented immigrants currently living in America.
The program continues this Friday, with the opening of Camilo Godoy’s “Unos Heroes” exhibit at Lenapeeps (704 Grand St.), which is described as “a photographic and video-related homage to immigrants.”
In 2010, reFORM Mondays will continue with phone conferences and letter-writing campaigns to Congressional representatives, and another Godoy exhibit at Lenapeeps, “My Royal Family.”
