  • 8-9:30 pm: a live radio play reading of the timeless holiday classic It’s a Wonderful Life will be performed by the Attic Ensemble at the Barrow Mansion
  • 12-10 pm: the Grand Opening of Thomas John Carlson Art Studio at 318 5th Street, which will feature inexpensive original art and art classes for all ages

Also on tap tonight is a screening of the classic 1942 holiday film Holiday Inn at the Loew’s (8 pm).

SATURDAY

Stop by the Jersey City Museum between noon and 5 pm and check some names off your Christmas shopping list at the Handmade for the Holidays event, hosted by the museum and the Jersey City Craft Mafia. (Be sure to check out a holiday performance from Mayor Healy at 3 pm.) As part of the museum’s Saturday festivities, Leon Yost and Cynthia Harris will also be on hand to give a talk about their excellent new coffee table book Changing Jersey City: A History in Photographs. At 2 pm at the Five Corners Branch Library, the son of press agent to the stars Bernie Green will dish the inside scoop on the stars you loved, including Bing Crosby, Danny Thomas, Ozzie & Harriet and more. Later on, the opening reception for Beth Achenbach’s latest exhibition, “Feathers, Flight and Fancy,” is at Made With Love (6 pm); the iconic Charlie Chaplin silent film Modern Times is at the Loew’s (7:30 pm); and Crewman 6 and the Porchistas will perform at the Lamp Post around 10 pm.

SUNDAY

At 6 pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church, independent classical choral ensemble Schola Cantorum on Hudson will perform ‘Tis the Season: There Is No Rose, a concert of well-known spirituals, early American Shaker tunes and new works.
