‘DiNardo Bill’ Unanimously Passes Assembly
By Jon Whiten • Dec 7th, 2009 • Category: Blog, News, PoliticsLegislation sponsored by Jersey City Assemblywoman Joan Quigley that seeks to expedite the payment of accidental pension death benefits for the families of fallen police and firefighters was approved by a 77 to zero vote today in the state Assembly.
The bill stems from the nearly three-month-wait endured by the widow of JCPD detective Marc DiNardo after he was killed in a July shootout on Reed Street.
“The heartbroken families [the deceased] leave behind should not have to face added grief because of state bureaucracy,” Quigley says in a statement. “They need to spend their time and energy focused on themselves, especially if children are involved, not fighting red tape.”
The bill will now be considered by the state Senate.
