Iris Records Closing Up Shop

By • Dec 9th, 2009 • Category: Arts, Blog

Not too long ago, I assigned JCI contributor Tad Hendrickson a piece on Iris Records, the somewhat legendary record store on Brunswick Street in the Village section of Downtown Jersey City. In particular, I told him, we were interested in how Iris has managed to stay open for 10-plus years on a strip of Brunswick that has seen everything from art galleries to vintage stores come and go over the past few years — particularly when Iris wasn’t open to the public all that often.

Turns out I got a different answer to that question than I was imagining. Tad reports today that Iris Records is closing its physical store to the public after this weekend. Proprietor Steve Gritzan says he’ll still have vinyl for sale at the Creative Grove market on Fridays, but the Brunswick Street store’s browsing days are over (unless you happen to be a bulk buyer).

Tad will have more on Iris’ closing in a piece for us that will be published later this month. Stay tuned.
