Jersey City Peace Movement Hosts 3rd Annual ‘Peace and Progress’ Awards Saturday

Former Ward C City Council candidate Adela Rohena and Black Waxx Studios’ U-Savior Washington will be honored as the Activists of the Year by the Jersey City Peace Movement at the group’s third annual Peace and Progress Honors Awards this weekend.

The event, which is free and open to the public, is Saturday night from 6 to 10 pm at Black Waxx Studios (280 1st St., 2nd Floor). There will be live performance and free vegetarian food and refreshments.

Other local people and organizations being honored are Uta Brauser of Fish With Braids Gallery/Creative Grove Artists Market, the Vulcan Pioneers of Hudson County, Black Waxx’s Shawna Glover, Anakbayan New York/New Jersey, Jersey City firefighter Michael Harris, Audio Bodies, the Jersey City Reporter‘s Ricardo Kaulessar, Open Soul Sessions host Jihan Ponti, and activists Nancy Olszewski, Michael Kramer, Claire Davis and James “Pop” Gaskins.
