This Weekend’s Best Bets

We’ve got three live music events for all stripes today, and — best of all — they are all free. Indie rock duo Karen and Joe playing at Sava Polish Meat Market & Deli at 7 pm, jazz vocalist Sarah James at Made With Love at 8 pm, and The One & Nines bringing the soul to O’Haras Downtown (with Kiwi the Child, the reggae group that shares members with The One & Nines) at 10 pm. Later in the night, the Lex Leonard Gallery is hosting a blowout JC for Haiti benefit with live music, DJs, raffle prizes and other good stuff. That all gets going around midnight, and will cost you $10, with all proceeds going to YELE Haiti’s relief efforts (it’s $5 if you RSVP by this afternoon).
SATURDAY
Saturday’s main event is the 4th annual Snow Ball, the gala fundraising event for Art House Productions. This year’s ball, as usual, will feature live entertainment, light fare, drinks and a silent auction — it gets going at 8 pm. (For more on the ball, check out our latest Tipsheet column.) Later on, Thomas Francis Takes His Chances and the Invincible Gods play a free show at the Lamp Post.
SUNDAY
Although this week’s weather hasn’t been all that wintry, there’s still plenty of room in our hearts (and our bellies) for soup. Good thing the Great Jersey City Soup Swap 2010 comes to Made With Love Sunday afternoon. Come by, bring some cans for St. Matthew’s Food Pantry, and take home some new soups — can’t beat that. Later on, check out some classic films over at LITM — Bullitt at 6 pm and The French Connection at 8 pm.
