VIDEO: Saturday Night Live Sketch Shouts Out Hudson County No-Show Jobs

As part of what critics are saying was one of the best SNLs in a while (Mad Men‘s Jon Hamm was hosting), the show did a State of the Union sketch that featured Fred Armisen’s Obama juxtaposed with actual reaction shots from the real State of the Union (and a surprise guest reaction shot from Brendan Fraser). As part of a riff on the lack of jobs in America, Jersey City and Hudson County got a surprise shout-out (skip to the 2:20 remaining mark to see the jobs bit.)

“Putting Americans back to work … has been my administration’s top priority,” Armisen says to applause, before listing the “three jobs that, as of noon today, are still available.”

The last of the three was an opening right here in our fair city.

“Local 507 of the Carpenters Union has a position available for construction on the new Hudson County Courthouse, Jersey City, New Jersey. Starting wage is $45 an hour,” Armisen says. “And, like most jobs on this project, it’s a no-show job. You can stay home all day.”

Here’s the video (skip to anywhere around the 2:20 remaining mark to see the jobs bit):

It is nice to not be ignored by NYC/SNL even if it’s derogatory!
