WFMU’s Annual Fund-raising Marathon Kicks Off Today

It’s a time-honored tradition. Jersey City’s renown nonprofit freeform radio station WFMU brings us some of the most eclectic radio programming that exists all year long, and in turn it asks us listeners to pitch in one time each year during a pull-out-all-the-stops two-week fund-raising marathon; this year’s begins today and runs through March 14.
As always, the station has lined up all sorts of special programming for the marathon, including the annual appearance by Hoboken’s Yo La Tengo, who will play listener requests this Friday night, March 5, from 8 to 11 pm; and the March 14 marathon finale, which features a live-band karaoke party broadcast live from Maxwell’s.
But if you just pledge for the swag, no worries. WFMU has a whole host of stuff it is giving away for pledges, including two new T-shirts designed by ESPO and Jerry Todd; and a cool Pack of Vices set that includes loaded dice, a Jad Fair-designed shot glass and temporary tattoos of the seven deadly sins by Dimitri Simakis.
The station this year has also signed on a good number of companies that are offering matching donations for their employees’ contributions, and has rolled out a “12-Step Program” that allows you to spread your pledge out over monthly installments.
For all the info you could ever need, or to make a pledge, check out the WFMU Marathon Central site.
