State Dems Launch Website Tracking Christie’s ‘Hidden Taxes’

Last week the state Democratic Committee launched a new website, NJTaxWatch.com, which it says is aimed at “keeping taxpayers throughout the state informed of the hidden consequences (taxes) of government actions that are supposedly cutting costs.”

The site allows you to pull up your municipality and see how some of Gov. Christie’s proposed cuts will affect services in your area; for now in Jersey City, it is focused on school aid, hospital funding and after-school program funding.

The site details the $3.6 million cut from the Jersey City school district and also breaks down the loss of funding to local hospitals; with the total takeback (the combination of state cuts and the federal funding that will be lost as a result of those cuts) from Christ Hospital coming in at just over $1 million and the takeback from the Jersey City Medical Center tallied at $3.8 million.

“We have analyzed many of the takebacks and broken them down by town or school district so no matter where you live in the state, you can see the direct local impact,” Middlesex County Assemblyman John Wisniewski, the state Democratic chairman, says in a statement. “This is an ongoing process, and the website will be updated as we get new information.”
