Public Hearing on Hamilton Park ‘Pet-Free Zone’ Tuesday

By • Mar 29th, 2010 • Category: Blog, News

The year-plus rehab of Downtown Jersey City’s Hamilton Park is getting close to its end, but city officials are still working out some last-minute details. One such detail is how much, if any, of the park is going to be designated a “pet-free zone.” The renovated park is slated to have two dog runs (one for big dogs and one for small dogs), but some of the passive space may be closed to dogs to help balance the needs of all of the park’s potential users.

Under city law, the Department of Public Works director has the authority to deem up to 50 percent of any park a pet-free zone without City Council approval, but a public hearing on the matter has to first be held. That public meeting is slated for Tuesday, March 30 at 6 pm in City Council Chambers at City Hall.
