Chromium Meeting Slated for Monday

PPG Industries will present its proposed work plans for the initial cleanup at the Garfield Avenue chromium site, as well as how it plans to protect the public’s health during the process, at a public meeting Monday evening.
The company, fresh off losing a legal battle to dismiss a federal lawsuit calling for a more stringent remediation plan, says it plans to start the cleanup this June with demolition of the concrete slab at the site, select excavation and treatment testing. According to a timeline that site administrator Mike McCabe presented to a judge last month, that process is expected to take about a year.
McCabe will chair Monday’s meeting, and in addition to representatives from PPG, Department of Environmental Protection and Jersey City officials will be on hand.
They will all take questions and listen to feedback from the public. No RSVP is required to attend. However, if you’re not able to attend but still want to share your thoughts or ask a question, you can call 201-777-2099 or email info (at) chromecleanup.com.
Details: Monday, April 19, 6:30 pm, at the Mary McLeod Bethune Life Center, 140 Martin Luther King Drive.
