Blue Cross Blue Shield Helping Bring Supermarket to Bergen Hill
By Jon Whiten • Apr 20th, 2010 • Category: Blog, NewsHorizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of NJ (Horizon BCBSNJ) has donated $150,000 towards the construction of a ground-level supermarket on Monticello Avenue, as part of a total of $1 million the insurance giant is giving to four New Jersey communities through the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs’ Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit (NRTC) Program.
The store will be part of a five-story mixed-use building being constructed by a private developer. Part of the $150,000 will also go to a job bank to be established by local nonprofit WomenRising at a separate location.
“Horizon BCBSNJ has a strong record of community support and providing needed assistance for these projects will help improve the economic climate in these areas,” company CEO William J. Marino says in a statement. “We commend the Department of Community Affairs for giving us the opportunity to take part in this innovative program.”
