Ever wanted to witness the spectacle of small planes flying quickly through the sky against the backdrop of the Manhattan skyline firsthand? If your answer is yes, then you’re in luck, as the 2010 Red Bull Air Race New York will bring just that to Jersey City’s Liberty State Park this June.
In the race, now in its sixth year, 15 pilots compete individually against the clock for the fastest time through an aerial race track made up of inflatable air gates. The course, as illustrated in the diagram above, will be above the section of New York Harbor just south of the Central Railroad of New Jersey Terminal and north of Ellis Island.
Tickets for the event, which is happening June 19 and 20 in Liberty State Park, are now on sale via the race website. Tickets for the qualifying day (the 19th) and the race day (the 20th) range from the low end — $30 for standing general admission tickets for qualifying day — to the high-rolling High Flyer’s Lounge package for $1,590 on the race day.
“Staging a Red Bull Air Race in New York City and Jersey City marks an important milestone in the history of the global motorsport championship and we feel privileged to be given this opportunity,” Red Bull Air Race CEO Bernd Loidl says in a statement. “We look forward to our partnership with both cities and Liberty State Park by providing spectators with an incredible experience as well as enabling millions of television viewers around the globe to watch the best race pilots compete against the spectacular skyline of some of the world’s great cities.”
