Liberty Humane Pushing Cat Adoptions During ‘Kitten Season’

By • May 11th, 2010 • Category: Blog, News

Last month, we told you that Liberty Humane Society (LHS) was looking for folks to foster kittens during the spring and summer, since more adult cats give birth this time of year, known as “kitten season,” leading to a spike in homeless kittens taken in by shelters.

Now LHS is also offering a deal to help make sure that older cats don’t get overlooked and to help ease overcrowding at the shelter. For the rest of May and all of June, the shelter will waive the adoption fee — normally $120 — for all cats over one year old in an effort to adopt out 100 cats.

“Right now we have many, many sweet, loving cats that will make excellent pets to loving families,” LHS executive director Joanna Hopkinson says in a statement. “We think this is a win/win arrangement for anyone who is thinking about adopting but who is not sure where to go to find that pet.”

All adopted cats come spayed/neutered, distemper vaccinated and tested for Feline AIDS and Leukemia. LHS has counselors on hand to answer questions and assist prospective owners with their search for the right pet.

Adoption counselors will be available to answer questions and assist applicants in finding the ideal pet for their home and lifestyle. All adopters will receive a healthy pet that is spayed or neutered, distemper vaccinated and tested for Feline Aids and Leukemia.

Adoption hours at the shelter (235 Jersey City Blvd.) are 11 am to 4 pm Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday; and 11 am to 8 pm Tuesday and Thursday. For more info, call the shelter at 201 547 4147 (extension 0).
