Bring on the Fresh: Jersey City Farmers Market Season Begins Saturday

One of the sure signs of summer is the reemergence of the farmers markets that dot the cityscape during the summer and fall months. The season is set to kick off on Saturday with the Van Vorst Park Farmers Market, which returning for its eighth year. Within a month, it will be joined by two other markets, and still others will come online after that.

Here’s the full list of the city’s markets, arranged by confirmed start date. We’ll let you know as we hear about others. (LIST UPDATED ON JUNE 5, 2010 TO INCLUDE PAULUS HOOK AND SUSSEX STREET MARKETS; ON JUNE 14, 2010 WITH MOST UP-TO-DATE INFO ON JOURNAL SQUARE; AND ON JUNE 25 TO INCLUDE WEBB PARK MARKET.)

Van Vorst Park Farmers Market: Opens Saturday, May 15 and runs each Saturday from 8 am – 2 pm until November (at Van Vorst Park by the gazebo).

Newport Mall Farmers Market: Opens Tuesday, June 1 and runs each Tuesday from 12 – 7 pm through August. (This market will be located in the courtyard area outside of Pay/Half on the first floor of the mall.)

Grove Street Farmers Market: Opens Thursday, June 3 and runs each Monday and Thursday from 4 – 8 pm until December 23, with the exception of Labor Day and Thanksgiving Day (at Grove Street PATH plaza).

Paulus Hook Farmers Market: Opens Saturday, June 5, and runs each Saturday from 11 am – 4 pm until December 19 (at Washington Street south of Dudley Street).

Sussex Street Farmers Market: Opens Tuesday, June 8, and each Tuesday from noon – 7 pm until December 21 (at Sussex Street east of Hudson Street).

Hamilton Park Farmers Market: Opens Wednesday, June 9 and runs each Wednesday from 4 – 8 pm until, weather permitting, December 22 (at Hamilton Park by the gazebo).

Journal Square Farmers Market: Opens Wednesday, June 16 and runs each Wednesday from 11 am – 7 pm until November 24. Beginning July 2, also runs each Friday from 11:30 am – 7:30 pm (at the Journal Square plaza).

Webb Park Farmers Market: Opens Saturday, June 26 and runs each Saturday from 9 am – 2 pm until the end of October (at Webb Park).

Harvest Square Farmers Market: Opens Tuesday, July 6 and runs each Tuesday from 3 – 6 pm until October 26 (at Bramhall and Grand Streets).

  1. Jersey City Residents can now Join a Meat CSA!
