Jersey City Artists Talk Art, Culture & Community Wednesday in Hoboken
By Jon Whiten • May 17th, 2010 • Category: Arts, BlogSeveral Jersey City artists will join colleagues from elsewhere in Hudson County Wednesday night in Hoboken for the Art, Culture and Community Forum 2010.
The theme for the panel discussion is “the artist as citizen,” and it will be moderated by Hoboken artist Craig Wallace Dale. The forum announcement says it will explore topics like ‘the value of cultural production in a rapidly growing community,” and how artists can “find their collective voice and use the established political and institutional systems to create change and opportunity.”
Uta Brauser of Creative Grove and Fish With Braids Gallery, artist Duda Penteado, curator Tara Thurber and Meredith Lippman of the Hudson County cultural affairs office will be joined by artist Tim Daly and Hob’art Co-operative Gallery founder Liz Cohen on the panel.
“We urge all area artists to come and be inspired to action,” Dale says in a statement. “There are three essential questions that we hope participants leave with: What do I want? Who am I in my community? What can I do?”
To that end, all attendees will be also given an action kit that will include government and media contacts and a goal worksheet.
