- Bomb Scare Tied to Landlord: After a gas leak at a Heights apartment building evacuated residents and led to discovery of a homemade bomb yesterday, officials have arrested the building’s owner and alleged he planted the bomb in an attempt to frame a tenant he was battling in court.

- Christie Calls for Garbage (Truck) Removal: Gov. Christie has asked the Port Authority to turn Jersey City’s Greenville Yards into a barge-to-rail garbage transport facility, a move that would remove an estimated 1,000 trucks per day from New Jersey’s roads. But first, the Port Authority must complete its purchase of the property from Conrail. Look for our report on the proposal later today.

- New Container Port to Be Powered by Wind: The Port Authority has announced that the new marine container port it is constructing will be powered by five windmills to be located on the Bayonne-Jersey City border.

- Arts High School to Move: The Jersey City Arts High School, which students from across the city attend for half the school day, will move from New Jersey City University to nearby Snyder High School due to budget cuts.

- Everything Jersey City Festival Expects Record Turnout: Central Avenue Special Improvement District president Michael Yun tells the Journal that he is expecting as many as 20,000 to attend Saturday’s Everything Jersey City festival.

- Trump Plaza II Taps Procida: Veteran investment banker William Procida has been hired by developer Metro Homes to advise the company on raising capital for its proposed Trump Plaza II condo tower.

In Statewide News:

- Christie Kicks Off Tax Cap Push: Gov. Christie yesterday for the first in a series of town hall meetings to stump for a proposal to institute a constitutional 2.5 percent property tax cap. Christie is hoping to have a ballot question ready for public vote in November.

- Report Says Tax Cap Would Lower Tax Bills: According to a Record analysis of state Department of Community Affairs tax data, a property tax cap instated ten years ago would have resulted in lower taxes today.

- Legislature to Back ‘Race to the Top’ Application: The state legislature is set to approve a resolution approving an application for up to $400 million in federal education grant funds, but will not back some of the grant application’s most controversial elements.

- Coscia Reappointment Expected: At its monthly public meeting today, the board of the Port Authority is expected to rename chairman Anthony Coscia to his post.

- Liberty Island to Open Evenings: Repeating an experiment from last September, the National Park Service will allow people to visit Liberty Island and dine there, at dusk on Thursdays from June to mid-August.
