Good News for Heights to NYC Commuters: Coach USA Ups Bus Service
By Jon Whiten • Jun 3rd, 2010 • Category: Blog, News
Right now, if you want to catch a number 99s or 10 Coach USA Red & Tan bus from the Heights into New York City during the morning rush hour, you’ve got very few options: if 5:37 am is too early, the next one doesn’t come until 7:25 am. And then if you miss the 7:49 am, you’re stuck waiting around until 9:47 am.
But that will change starting Monday, June 7, when the bus company increases the number of bus runs along Central Avenue during the morning rush from four to 12. To promote the expanded service, Coach USA is offering a discounted fare of $2 per rider to New York until Friday, June 11.
As part of the new schedule, Red & Tan is also rolling out a trial Express Bus from Bayonne to New York that the company says will shave about 10 minutes off the commute for existing Bayonne bus commuters.
“Even during difficult economic times Coach USA is coming up with innovative ways to attract their valued riders,” Central Avenue Special Improvement District (CASID) president Michael Yun says in a statement. “Instead of cutting down on their services like many other mass transportation companies, Red & Tan will be taking this opportunity to provide more convenience and service to their esteemed customers.”
After the weeklong $2 promotion, standard rates will return. Yet, the Central Avenue $2.75 promotional rate will continue, as long as tickets are purchased in advance at Garden State News (366 Central Ave.), Goehrig’s Bakery (475 Central Ave.), or Mendez Agency Nationwide Travel (263 Central Ave.).
“We are proud to serve our community and work very closely with organizations such as the CASID in order to understand our customers’ needs,” Coach USA manager Jim Rutherford says. “They provide valuable research and feedback to our company which helps us boost our services.”
The new schedule for buses stopping at Central Avenue and Hutton Street is as follows (look for the full schedule to be posted on the Red & Tan site soon):
- 5:37 am
- 5:56 am
- 6:16 am
- 6:48 am
- 7:00 am
- 7:25 am
- 7:49 am
- 8:00 am
- 8:24 am
- 8:37 am
- 9:01 am
- 9:06 am
