This Weekend’s Best Bets

TODAY
This week’s Creative Grove Artist Market is a little more special than usual, featuring an Etsy Craft Party Booth and — rumor has it — a kiddie pool (starts at 2 pm). Still looking for the perfect Father’s Day gift? Stop by the West Bergen Branch Library at 3:15 pm or the Greenville Branch Library at 3:30 pm to make Dad a hand-crafted gift from the heart (registration recommended). At 8 pm, dust off your cheesiest beachwear and get down with Art House at their Summer Blowout, an indoor beach blanket karaoke party.
SATURDAY
Saturday’s weather should be perfect for getting outdoors, and the Washington Park Association is planning to take advantage: they’re hosting their second annual Planting in the Park event, with live music, and demonstrations on sustainable gardening, composting and rain barrels (starts at 9 am). Saturday is also the first day of the two-day Red Bull Air Race — ahem — “New York,” which will take place in — ahem — Liberty State Park. The fun starts at 10 am, but it don’t come cheap: a general admission ticket will set you back $40. Not into air races? How about high heeled shoe races? Local nonprofit My Sistahz Keeper is hosting the Heels for My Sistahz fundraiser in Audubon Park, which features a race in high heels. Or for another worthy fundraiser — with less racing and more wine — head to Paulus Hook for the Wine Tasting benefit for WomenRising (6 pm).
SUNDAY
Chilltonians have a penchant for great ethnic festivals, and Sunday is one of the year’s favorites: the annual Bolivian Festival gets started at noon at Exchange Place. Later, Reverend Billy returns to Jersey City to help us celebrate Father’s Day in his trademark anti-consumerist style. The show promises to be a hoot, and kids are welcome. The show starts at 3 pm at Grace Church Van Vorst, and a picnic follows.
