TODAY

The mini heat wave has dissipated a bit, just in time for Sirelo Entertainment‘s monthly invasion of the Creative Grove Artist Market today (2 to 8 pm); the early Independence Day celebration features live music from Land of the Look Behind, DJs, percussion, a short play from Art House Productions and Insurgo Stage Project‘s Free, “an improvisational movement-based investigation into the concept of freedom.” On the live music front, Ace Case and The Crosstown Country Allstars plays a free show at Made With Love (8 pm), while Binky Bianca and Paper June are at O’Haras Downtown, where they’ll be playing a free show featuring both originals and covers all night long (10 pm). If you prefer to have your live music with a healthy heaping of Italian food, Casa Dante‘s got your ticket, with the Alex Stein Jazz Trio and Champian Fulton bringing the jazz beginning at 7:30 pm.

SATURDAY

Lots of outdoor activities dot the Saturday landscape, with the free kayaking tours at Liberty State Park kicking off a summer season at 10 am (see the full upcoming schedule here), the Friends of Van Vorst Park holding another Flea Market (9 am to 4 pm), and the Lafayette Family Festival getting into swing at Webb Park (12 to 3 pm). Saturday is also day one of Liberty Humane Society‘s big “Pets-a-Palooza” open house and festival, which features family friendly activities and all sorts of pet-related goodness (12 to 8 pm; also takes place Sunday).

SUNDAY

Sunday keeps the outdoor festivities rolling. The always-fun Philippine American Friendship Day Parade & Festival celebrates its first year on the West Side rather than at Exchange Place (10:30 am), and Holy Rosary Church hosts a Beer Tasting and Bar-B-Que in its Downtown courtyard (2:30 pm). Later on, the Sunday Night Film Forum keeps entertaining Jersey City’s cinephiles with a screening and discussion at the Jersey City Art School (7:30 pm).
