This Weekend’s Best Bets
By Jon Whiten • Jul 2nd, 2010 • Category: Arts, BlogIt’s a pretty light load on the cultural front this holiday weekend, but there are still a few gems.
FRIDAY
The first of the summer’s three free outdoor performances by the Hudson Shakespeare Company to take place in Van Vorst Park is tonight, as the players tackle King Lear (7 pm). At the Lamp Post, Sic & Mad — the band that spawned the Slackers — plays a free show with New Jersey’s always excellent psych-surfers Mirrors and Wires (10 pm).
SATURDAY & SUNDAY
Not much going on the rest of the weekend, so just get out and enjoy your days and nights — it’s supposed to be pretty warm, but take some refuge in Liberty State Park or along the Hudson River. Swing by the Golden Door Mini-Golf Course to practice your putts. Or explore a neighborhood you’ve never checked out before. Or get out of town and refresh. And you can check out the Macy’s July 4 fireworks, though the JCPD says you won’t really be able to see them from Jersey City.
Whatever you do, enjoy.
