Hudson County’s Air Quality Expected to Be Poor Today and All Weekend

With forecasters callings for three straight days in which temperatures in Jersey City will reach the mid-90s, the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is predicting high quantities of ozone in Hudson County’s air, leading to poor air quality through the weekend and a designated “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” rating on the Air Quality Index (AQI).
With that AQI rating, all three days have been dubbed Air Quality Action Days, with the DEP advising everyone, but particularly children, the elderly and those with respiratory diseases like asthma — to reduce prolonged or heavy exertion outdoors.
The air quality is expected to improve on Monday, mostly due to slightly lower temperatures and likely thunderstorms.
