New Jersey Monthly Editors Give Kudos to Light Horse Tavern, Zeppelin Hall and Edward’s Steakhouse

It must be “let’s make a list of Best Restaurants in our glossy magazine” season, because not long after we noted the appearance of Jersey City’s Taqueria and Casa Dante on Inside Jersey‘s reader-voted Best NJ Restaurants list, we happened upon New Jersey Monthly‘s 2010 Readers’ and Critics’ Restaurant Poll, which is the main feature in the magazine’s recently released August issue.

No Jersey City establishments were chosen by the readers of New Jersey Monthly, but our gastronomical scene was redeemed by the magazine’s critics, who chose three establishments as Critics’ Picks.

In the Beer Selection category, there were two Critics’ Picks — and both were in Jersey City. The Light Horse Tavern (199 Washington St.) shared the honors with a newer neighbor, the beer garden Zeppelin Hall (88 Liberty View Drive), which recently celebrated its first anniversary.

And in the Steak category, Edward’s Steakhouse (239 Marin Blvd.) shared the Critics’ Picks honors with the Morton’s chain, which was honored for its locations in Atlantic City and Hackensack.

Our neighbor to the north fared much better with New Jersey Monthly‘s readers, with top vote-getters in North Jersey for New Restaurant (Zylo), Cheesesteak (Piccolo’s), Latin American/Mexican (Cucharamama) and Deli – Italian Style (Fiore’s). In the last two categories, Hoboken also scored a Critics’ Pick, with Zafra (Latin American/Mexican) and Lisa’s (Deli – Italian Style).
