TODAY
It’s a great day to be outdoors, and there are a couple of great events to help you soak up the sun (and the milder temps). The ChalkFest fundraiser for the York Street Project‘s child development center for homeless and homeless-transitioned children is at noon at Exchange Place, and the final Creative Grove market before a month off is the once-a-month takeover by Sirelo Entertainment, Creative Grove Under Siege, this week featuring lots of breakdancing, DJs, live music and live art-making (2 to 8 pm).
Later in the evening, the Warehouse hosts the kickoff event of the JC Opens Up the Mic Tour 2010, featuring spoken word and artists from a variety of Jersey City’s open mics coming together (8 pm). Meanwhile, Ace Case performs a free concert at Made with Love (8 pm), and J CITY Theater‘s latest production, Gun-Shy, enters its final weekend of performances (8 pm tonight and Saturday).
SATURDAY
Saturday is a pretty light day on the culture front; why not check out the offerings at this summer’s Hudson Restaurant Week? There are 24 Jersey City restaurants taking part, and some are even offering up their special deals on the weekends. Check out the event’s website for full details. Saturday night, Jersey City singer Sirena celebrates the release of her first EP, Ocean’s Aphrodite, at Grassroots Community Space (7 pm).
SUNDAY
The free outdoor Summerfest concert series in Liberty State Park continues this evening with a show by 3 D (6:30 pm). Later on, you can swing by the Jersey City Art School to check out what’s on tap at this week’s Sunday Film Forum (7:30 pm).
