TODAY

Newport Centre Mall should be chock full of tweens this afternoon, with a “Youth Rock Live” concert featuring Six Volt and Whitney Kelly scheduled for 5 pm. If you prefer your live music out of doors, and less tweeny, head to the MLK HUB for a free concert by local R&B artist Asia Jones (5 pm). And of course, Holy Rosary Church‘s La Festa Italiana continues tonight and runs through the weekend on 6th Street (6 pm).

SATURDAY

Get out early and head to Liberty State Park for another “Explore the Estuary” event, where you can don waders and check out the marine life in the waters surrounding the park (10 am). Up the hill, the India Day Parade and festival gets rolling up near Mosquito Park (aka Leonard Gordon Park) at 11 am, and ends at India Square.

In the evening, Grace Church Van Vorst hosts an open mic night (7:30 pm), and there’s a closing reception for Megan Gulick and Lau Klohe‘s … and the Livin’ is Easy exhibit at Port-O Lounge (8:30 pm).

SUNDAY

Sunday is usually the slowest day for cultural events in Jersey City, but this one is the exception to that rule. In addition to the final day of La Festa Italiana, there are a handful of other worthy events.

If you missed Saturday’s India Day Parade, or you just want to keep celebrating Indian independence, head to Newport Town Square, where fusion Indian dancers will be performing and giving lessons for both kids and adults (2 pm). John Christian‘s first Summerfest show at Liberty State Park was rained out, but he’s back this afternoon for a rescheduled — and free — performance (3 pm). Later in the afternoon, Ladies on the Mic celebrates Pride Month with a special lineup of some of Jersey City’s most talented ladies (including JCI sales manager Catherine Hecht) performing at an event hosted by Beth Achenbach at Made with Love (4 pm).

As night falls, check out the opening reception for a Robert Piersanti retrospective at the Iron Monkey (7 pm), or swing by the Jersey City Art School for a screening and discussion of the Fellini classic La Dolce Vita (7:30 pm).
