Introducing the 2010 Jersey City Artists Studio Tour Digital Map

By • Sep 29th, 2010 • Category: Arts, Featured, News

Like last year, we’ve put all the listings for this weekend’s Artists Studio Tour into a digital, Google-based, map for those of you who’d prefer using that to a printed version (or for the many of you who live in areas where the Jersey City Reporter, which carries the official print map, isn’t delivered).

Our data is based on the most recent information that we’ve received from the city’s Cultural Affairs division, and we’ve included links to the participating artists’ websites where we have it, but there is undoubtedly some missing information. But the good news is that — unlike the printed version of the map — we can update this one on the fly, so please email info (at) jerseycityindependent.com with any updates to your listing, or email us if your listing isn’t on the map.

While our map is far from a perfect digital solution, as of now it is the only one available, and it does enable many smartphone users to access the nearest Studio Tour locations to them, wherever they are.

The map seems to be fully compatible with the Android platform, opening nicely into Google Maps (you can use this shortcut link: http://bit.ly/2010StudioTourMap).

On the iPhone, it is a little different — that shortcut link will open the map in your web browser. While it will have all of the pertinent information, it will not include data on your current location. If you want to open the map into the Maps application on your iPhone, you can click this shortcut link — http://bit.ly/2010StudioTouriphone — it will take you into the browser first, but prompt you to open another link, which will open the map in your Maps application. You will lose some of the details about the listings, but it will enable you to use your current location when looking for the closest spots to peep some art.

Since we’ve literally been hacking together this map on a very tight deadline, the testing for the smartphone capabilities hasn’t exactly been robust. But such is life, right? Anyway, if you notice any other bugs or have suggestions, email us at info (at) jerseycityindependent.com.
