Mayor Healy Announces Nomination for Vacant Ward F Seat

By • Dec 7th, 2011 • Category: Blog, News, Politics

Michele Massey, the executive director of the Monticello Community Development Corporation, will be Mayor Healy’s nominee for the vacated Ward F council seat. The nomination requires City Council approval, with a vote coming at the next scheduled council meeting, Wednesday, December 14th.

“Michele is very well known to myself and a whole host of other people in Jersey City as an active, concerned, knowledgeable and diligent member of the Jersey City community,” said Mayor Healy in a prepared statement. “She knows about neighborhood revitalization which this entire city is experiencing and we think she will be a very positive addition to the City Council and look forward to her confirmation and to working with her for the betterment of Ward F and all of Jersey City.”

If the nomination is successful, Massey, who also chairs Bergen Communities United, will hold the seat for a year before a general election is held in November of 2012. Failing to find the necessary votes, the seat will remain vacant until the election next year– the city only has a 30-day window to find a replacement and there are no other City Council meetings scheduled for December.
