Final Superintendent Search Town Hall This Saturday; Board of Education Wants Your Opinion in Survey

The Jersey City Board of Education’s final “town hall” meeting on its superintendent search is slated for this Saturday in the Heights, and school board officials are making one final push to have as many interested parties as possible fill out its survey on the search.
The board has hired the firm West Hudson Associates/Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates to help the Board with the process of finding a permanent replacement for Charles Epps, who resigned last year after a long tenure at the BOE’s helm. District veteran Franklin Walker is currently serving as interim superintendent until a replacement is found.
The survey, which is available in both English and Spanish, aims to get residents’ input “on the desired characteristics and skills” they want to see in the next schools leader.
“As you respond, please remember that all characteristics listed are desirable, but we are interested in knowing your perceptions about which characteristics are ‘most important’ for the Jersey City school district,” board president Sterling Waterman and search committee chair Carol Lester say in a letter to the public.
The final public meeting on the search is Saturday, February 25 at 1:30 pm, at School #7, 222 Laidlaw Avenue.
