Lafayette Community Learning Garden, Mural to Open Tomorrow

The Lafayette neighborhood will be blooming tomorrow with the opening of the Community Learning Garden.

The garden, located at 314 Pacific Ave., was developed and planted exclusively by volunteers in little more than a month using materials donated by local businesses. The team, led by Master Gardener Calvin Palmer, hopes the garden — which was previously an empty lot — will be a sustainable food source and green oasis.

After the opening of the garden at 4 pm, local artists will perform in the garden’s recreation space as part of JC Fridays, a citywide day of free arts events. A new mural by local artist Mr. Mustart, who is currently showing some of his recent work at White Star Bar, will also be unveiled. Guests will be able to enjoy soft drinks and food at the event.

While JC Fridays has mostly saturated Downtown Jersey City in the past, Bergen/Lafayette is one of the outer neighborhoods doing more to get in on the fun. For example, the Heights will be hosting seven events tomorrow, including six that highlight the neighborhood’s local arts district.

The Pretty Little Things boutique, located at 315 Pacific Ave., and Modern American Eatery (MAE), located at 339 Communipaw Ave., are also hosting JC Fridays events.
