City of Water Day Festival Brings Splash of Waterfront Fun to Liberty State ParkBy Summer Dawn Hortillosa • Jul 3rd, 2012 • Category: Blog, News
The City of Water Day Festival is coming soon to the Hudson River with festivities in Liberty State Park in Jersey City, Governors Island in New York City and 15 other waterfront locations on July 14.
The celebration, which is run by the Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance, celebrates the waterfront and fun water-related activities. During the event, festivalgoers can get free boat tours on thousands of historic and educational vessels, see a flotilla with hundreds of kayakers, canoers and sailors, and even get a chance to kayak, row or fish themselves. Kids will be able to enjoy arts, crafts, games and other activities.
There will also be a photo contest where contestants can submit pictures showing why they love the waterfront to the New York-New Jersey Harbor Coalition Facebook page, using Twitter hashtag #harborpics or emailing pics[at]harborcoalition.org.
There will be a free ferry between Governors Island and Liberty State Park for those who want to participate in activities on both sides.
Organizers are also looking for volunteers for activities in Liberty State Park.
