Wild animals, art and fashion stormed Columbus Drive (pun intended, for those who got caught in the torrential rain) yesterday with the reopening of Fish with Braids gallery.

The gallery is the brainchild of Uta Brauser, the mastermind behind the Creative Grove Designer and Artist Market and other local art events. She originally opened Fish with Braids in 2008 on Jersey Avenue, only around the corner from its current space.

Brauser’s fashion line, Evolve Wear, which features animal-inspired, wearable art, is on display at the gallery alongside others’ work. She plans to host various art exhibits, special classes and programs and performance art and “build a comprehensive art and culture center, leaning on the Bauhaus ideas of skill training in the artisan sectors,” according to a statement.

The industrial space was filled with local artists, musicians and art lovers who watch documentaries featuring Brauser’s Evolve Wear 2 line and Masae Satouchi’s Color Therapy, which featured gray people indulging in color. Guests also saw a fashion art video by Raven Black.

Some of the wearable art on display was created by local artists including Brauser, Vincent Zambrano, Casimir Alexander, Laura Quattrocchi and Satouchi.

The highlight of the evening was “In Beauty I walk,” a performance piece featuring the Evolve Wear series that pays tribute to animals, natural and the Earth as well as raises awareness about the environment.
