New Vet in Heights Neighborhood Offers Acupunture, Stem Cell Treatments and More
Local veterinarians currently serving Downtown Jersey City, Hoboken and Bayonne have branched out to the Heights neighborhood with a new office they say will offer unconventional and high-quality care.
Heights Veterinary Associates, founded by laser surgeon Michael Tuder, is the newest office in a Hudson County network of animal hospitals with 15 associate doctors that serves local dogs and cats.
Dr. Alanna Chesney, who does acupuncture, food therapy and other forms of holistic medicine, says the new office is focused on offering whole body care and nontraditional treatments in addition to run-of-the-mill services like antibiotics and vaccines.
“I might be getting into herbals at some point soon and we also have a therapeutic laser unit which can do things like help arthritis in older dogs. We also just purchased a stem cell machine — not for cloning, but for regenerative medicine,’ says Chesney. The revolutionary technology allows doctors at the office to take stem cells from an animal’s own fat and reinject them in problem areas to treat problems like arthritis or ligament injuries.
“In the Heights office, we’re really trying to be a little more integrative,” she says. “I see so many dogs do really well with acupunture and laser therapy where traditional medicine didn’t work…. While we can do basic care, we can also do things other vets can’t do.”
The office had a soft opening last week and plan to have a grand opening within the coming month. With some staff members and previous patients already living in the Heights, Chesney said she expects to see business boom as word gets out about the new location.
“At the Downtown Jersey City office, we have good relationship with local day cares like K9dergarten and have a number of clients who are also the same people running farmer’s markets and things like that. We hope to be just as integrated at the Heights office,” she adds, noting that anyone with a dog or cat that needs care can walk-in anytime to work with the doctors and that no appointments are necessary.
The Heights Veterinary Associates office is located at 3402 Kennedy Blvd. off Griffith.
