Demmellash was one of five women nominated by philanthropist and fashion designer Tory Burch for the Philanthropy subset of Forbes‘ The World’s Most Powerful Women Changing the World list.
“I am deeply humbled and grateful to be selected for this honor,” said Demmellash, who was honored alongside Jacqeuline Novogratz, CEO of the Acumen Fund, Diana Taylor, Chair of ACCION, Dina Habib Powell, Director of Global Corporate Engagement for Goldman Sachs Group and Catherine Muther, President of the Three Guineas Fund.
The Harvard graduate, who grew up in Ethiopia, has previously been honored and recognized for her philanthropic work. For example, she was named a CNN Hero in 2009.
Since its foundation in 2004, RTC has provided training for hundreds of entrepreneurs from under-served, urban communities around the state through its 12-week Community Business Academy and on-going Business Acceleration Services program and has helped launch and strengthen over 250 small businesses.
RTC is currently working to inspire entrepreneurs across the state through the Start Something Challenge, which ends September 15 and has a grand prize of $10,000.
