Power Outage Spreads Across Swaths of Jersey CityBy Matt Hunger • Oct 29th, 2012 • Category: Blog, News
Reports are coming from readers that huge swaths of Jersey City are without power, although this information could not be immediately confirmed.
When reached for comment, a PSE&G representative would only say that, all told, 700,000 buildings throughout NJ were without power. Calls to city officials were not immediately returned, though that could be because City Hall also flooded and the Mayor’s Action Bureau had to evacuate.
Yet, readers are turning in corroborating reports of affected areas, including the neighborhood east of Lincoln Park along Harrison Street and Bentley Avenue, as well as further north by St. Peter’s University. That goes for an area covering the Beacon and heading up to the courthouse.
The same is true for Paulus Hook, where a report has come in that the Hudson has reached the buildings front steps, as has a word that power is out at around Sherman Avenue and Franklin Street in the Heights.
Although PSE&G would not confirm which areas have lost power, they did say crews are out trying to fix what can be fixed mid-hurricane.
