A volunteer emergency response hotline has been set up by the state of New Jersey so that residents can assist on the long road to recovery from Hurricane Sandy.

Call 1-800-JERSEY-7 (1-800-537-7397) to register.

The New Jersey Office of Volunteerism and AmeriCorps will match volunteers based on availability and skills, according to a statement by NJ officials.

If storm conditions prevent live operators from working the phones, volunteers can call 609-775-5236 or 908-303-0471 instead. Volunteers may also send an email to rowena.madden@sos.state.nj.us.

I can’t get through on the hotline, and I’m waiting to hear back by email. How were people been coordinating before this hotline went up? Now that there are busses, I can actually get out to volunteer and I can’t figure out where to go.
