PHOTOS: Jersey City Artists Studio Tour 2012

Thousands of people turned out for the Jersey City Artists Studio Tour last weekend, starting with a kickoff party at the Tenmarc building and continuing through Sunday with public art, open artist studios, art exhibits, live music and more at about 75 venues scattered trough every ward.

Check out some of our photos from the day taken by JCI Jennifer Weiss. Some of the festivities below include the 4th Street Arts and Music Festival, Project Greenville, unofficial JCAST exhibit “Island Girls” at the Gallery at 58 Coles, “Effulgence” at the Monticello Gallery, sex&drugs&rock&roll at 500 Palisade, the Distillery Gallery, art by students at Metro Arts Summer Institute, Panepinto Galleries and more.

Weiss also visited the studios of artists like Michael Tweedie, Russell Lehrer, Grace Carrero, All Ironworks, Maurizio Zuluaga and several artists residing and working at 150 Bay Street.

Keep an eye out for more photos later today from other JCI staffers including photographer Steve Gold’s portraits of artists with their work and a reflection by moi, Summer Dawn Hortillosa, on my “first date” with the tour. We also have publisher Catherine Hecht’s take on the opening party, which she says brought back memories of 111 First Street. Later this week, we’ll have photos from photographer Mickey Mathis.
