Isla Bonita, New Puerto Rican and Cuban Restaurant, Opens Today on Central Avenue

Tropical the island breeze, all of nature, wild and free, Central Avenue is hoping you’ll long to be at Isla Bonita, a new restaurant opening today in the shopping district.

Isla Bonita specializes in Puerto Rican and Cuban comfort food, the recipes of owner Adriana Maissel’s grandmother. Born in Jersey City, but raised in Puerto Rico, Adriana says this restaurant has been a dream of hers since she first started cooking at ten. “This restaurant will celebrate my grandmother Carmen, who taught me everything I know about cooking and made this dream of mine possible,” she says.

“We are excited that Isla Bonita will add their special take on incredible and affordable Puerto Rican and Cuban cuisine to the great variety of restaurants here in the Heights. The diversity of our restaurants reflects the wonderful diversity of our community,” says Central Avenue SID President Michael Yun, who is planning to run for the Ward D council seat next year.

Isla Bonita, located at 406 Central Ave. (at Thorne), opens today at 11 am and will be open regularly from 7 am to 9 pm and serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Dishes range in price from $3.25 to $15.

In a related story, the Central Avenue Special Improvement District Management Corporation (CASID), the oldest SID in Jersey City, recently voted to continue for two more years.
