Hudson (Winter) Restaurant Week Returns Bigger Than Ever

Note:  This story was updated on Feb. 6. at 11 am to include the extended run of HRW.

Winter is not my favorite season.  I dislike the cold weather, the snow and the overall dreariness. However, this week is the start of one of my favorite two weeks of year — Hudson (Winter) Restaurant Week (HRW).

HRW is a bi-annual culinary celebration in order to promote Hudson County as a premier dining destination. In other words, twice a year, in January and July, foodies old and new get to eat at some of the finest restaurants in the area at a discounted cost.

This year HRW celebrates its 11th year and has more than 50 restaurants. The restaurants who participate in HRW offer three- or sometimes four-course meals for on average of $35. Many of them also offer a prefix lunch for $15 to $20.

There are eight new establishments, including 6th Borough Restaurant, Amelia’s Bistro, Laico’s, Masina Trattoria, McLoone’s Pier House, Smokin Barrel, Waterside Restaurant and White Star Bar at Warren Street. Also, new for this year, HRW has launched a social media contest. If diners use #HudsonRW on Twitter or Instagram, HRW may show up and pick up the tab.

HRW was originally slated to run till Feb 6. Tamara Remedios, HRW’s founder, stated, “This year is our largest ever with 52 participating restaurants. Unfortunately, due to the snow it has lessened the number of days, but we’ll be announcing restaurants that have opted to extend their HRW options.”

Many restaurants have chosen to extended their Hudson Restaurant Week menus till Feb 12. Jersey City restaurants that will be participating are listed below.

Amelia’s Bistro: Feb. 7 – Feb. 12 (Sat before 6pm)
Battello: Feb. 9 – Feb. 12  (not the weekend)
City Bistro: Feb. 7 – Feb.12
Edwards Steakhouse: Feb. 7 – Feb. 12
Laico’s:  Feb. 7 – Feb. 8
Max’s of Manila:  Feb. 7 – Feb. 12
Skylark on the Hudson:  Feb. 7 – Feb. 12

The full list of 19 restaurants that have have opted to extend their participation in HRW until Feb. 12 can be found here.
