Honey and Moon Photography and Jersey City Independent Announce #dayinthelifejc Instagram Takeover!

Because of the wonderful response to the “Day in the Life: Jersey City” project, Honey and Moon Photography and the Jersey City Independent have decided to team up to bring you #dayinthelifejc through the eyes of various residents via Instagram. Each month, one Jersey City resident will be selected to take over the JCI Instagram feed (@jcindependent) for one week. Participants will share their #dayinthelifejc, giving us a glimpse of their life and the true diversity of our city.

Day in the Life: Jersey City was launched by Tracey Luz and Eric Brown of Honey and Moon Photography on Sept. 12, 2015. They called upon everyone in Jersey City to document their typical “day in the life” and share what the city looked like through their eyes. Participants used the hashtag #dayinthelifejc, and submitted their images to Honey and Moon Photography.

Six people participated as judges in the project, one person representing each ward. They narrowed down the submissions to 60 final images that collectively represented a #dayinthelifejc. Collaborating with the Department of Cultural Affairs, the final images chosen were printed on a banner that was displayed in front of City Hall. Each image was also printed and mounted courtesy of Big Drum Art and Framing, and then displayed concurrently at the Lackawanna Pop Up space during the studio tour.

The #dayinthelifejc exhibit collectively displayed work from punk rockers and fireman, the old and young, and the people of Jersey City from every ward. Individually, the work showed a personal glimpse from a particular person’s life, together, the display showed the true diversity and heartbeat of our city. Tracey Luz says, “We are excited to partner with another community institution, Jersey City Independent, in keeping this pulse kicking, and we can’t wait to see what you have to show us!”

This month, from January 18 through the 24, you’ll be experiencing Jersey City through the eyes of local artist and universal cosmic comic Beth Bentley. We will post a photo and brief bio about each person that is chosen on our website just before they start sharing their #dayinthelifejc.
